Camp Memories.....

Christmas!!!

Stockings hanging from the fire place.

Soft bells ringing through the night.

Images of candy canes flutter through my head.

In the morning. Summer bright.

I jump out of my bed.

It's an amazing Christmas

Camp

Room 19 are so excited. We are finally allowed to go. We are going to sleep in tents and cabins. We are very nervous but also excited. We are going to swim in the lake, do archery and alot of other stuff that I don't know about. We are going to stay up half the night and tell spooky stories, BOO!

Welcome back Miss Hygate

Over the past week our teacher has been off ill. Today is the first day that she has been at school for a while and we all missed her. It is great that she is back now!!

Going on Camp

Everybody in Room 19 is going on camp. Most people are a bit nervous but they don't need to be because they will be with their friends and they will have lots of fun. We even get to make a river dam!

Our awesome teacher Miss Hygate

In Room 19 we have the best teacher ever called Miss Hygate. She is so awesome because she is...

kind, funny, she gives us lots of fitness, she gives lots of fun activities and she is soft so she hardly ever yells. Especially she never stops smiling.

Camp for Team Kiwi

Team Kiwi are going on camp, we are going with the rest of Team Kiwi we are staying at Journeys End we will leave Windsor School on November the 30th we will leave camp on he 2nd of December . We will be staying one night in cabins and one night in the tents we will do lots of fun activities.

This term we are going to camp at Journeys End. I think it will be really fun. We are staying for 3 days & 2 nights.

Panythose People (sorry this is so late!!!!)

Earlier this term one of our reading groups read a School Journal article about making "Pantyhose People". After reading the article our whole class got into groups and had a go at making our own.

Before we could start making the 'Pantyhose People' we all had to write letters to our parents to persuade them to supply us with some of the materials we needed. Once we had managed to get all the gear we needed we worked together to create our people.

Bonjour Room 19!

Bonjour mes petites!


I just thought I'd write you all a quick message before my friends and I head out for the day. At the moment I am staying with friends in a beautiful house in Font-Remy in the Bordeaux region of France. It is a beautiful area and where we are staying there is a pool, a table tennis table, a pool table, petanque, cricket and lots of good friends so we are all having fun!


On Saturday I catch the train up to Paris. I'm very excited about seeing some famous sights like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. 


Anyway I need to head out now and do some exploring. Hope that you are all good and that you are being amazing for Ms Corrie!

The Dark Shadow

I was walking through the woods. I had heard lots of stories about the woods but they weren't scaring me a bit. Suddenly I saw something rush past me. Now I was getting scared. I could hear the trees creaking in the wind, I saw a dark shadow in front of me. I felt a cold wind and then the dark shadow was gone. 

That night I could not sleep a wink, all I could think about was the dark shadow.

The next morning I went back to the woods. Something was different, where were the trees and the plants? Then I saw the shadow it was getting closer and closer.  From nowhere it talked to me, "Hey you."

All this time the dark shadow was just my science teacher getting stuff for school.

Our Year So Far....

Grace the Movie-Maker!

One of our Room 19 students, Grace, brought in this movie that she made at home in her spare time. It stars her Littlest Pet Shop characters and is based on the format of 'The Suite Life of Zac and Cody'. Enjoy....

CYCLE SAFE

Every year the cycle safe team come to our school to teach year six children to ride their bikes on the road.

comic club

Comics comics buy our comics.Trial for free, after that it's  20 cents per comic (with a toy a dollar). Puzzle books for free. If you want us to make a comic especially for you just see us and give us some ideas, it will cost 30 cents. We are planing to sell the comics by the tuckshop we will be selling them by the end of July. Stay tuned for further info.

cool experiments

Room 19 have been doing cool experiments like 'Blooming Flowers' where you colour in a flower shape and cover the face by folding the petals in. Then you put them in water and watch the flowers bloom. 

We have also done drips on a coin were you get 2 coins that are the same, from the same year and are facing the same way, and put drops of water on the coin. Then you count the drops and see what happens next.

Now we are going to put a ping pong ball in a full cup of water and see what happens next.

My favourite was the candle trick.  What you do is blue tack a candle on to a plate with water. Put about 3 drops of food colouring onto the plate. Next light the candle and count to 5. Finally put an upside-down jar over the candle and watch what happens.


Room 19 have had a lot of fun!!!

Beanies!!

On Tuesday We got Given BEANIES :)

Every child in the school got given one. Some grandmothers from Australia and NZ knitted them. They're so warm! I got a blue one with pink all over it. When I was driving down the road with my mum you could see lots of colourful heads :)

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson is a story about a half-blood that fights monsters.

He has to save his mother from the Underworld. The reason is that a Minotaur dissolved Percy's mother.

ChiLL Studio

Room 19 and 20 share a CHilLL studio its were we get to to chill and learn. We have a couch and some bean bags, we really enjoy them. We thank the builders and others who helped make our studio.

Christchurch Earthquake!!

In Christchurch we have been having some annoying earthquakes!!


On Monday we had a 5.8 AND a 6.3. We were at school it was quite freaky. At first I thought it was just my ripstick riding riding bumpy but then I saw my friends drop down to the concrete.  We all ducked down into a turtle. As it finished we all quickly went to the court but ..... I fell over and I had to limp quickly!! It hurt so I just sat down .

Technology & Te Reo...

Today we tried a new way of practising our te reo skills. We used the ipods to help us practise saying and writing some te reo phrases.

Hamburger World

In Hamburger Land there was a man called Mr Potato. He was an ugly filthy dirty potato who seriously needed a wash in water! One day it was an amazingly warm cloudless day, Mr Potato was sweating potato juices so he went to Green Belly Bay for a swim. Mrs Potato loved him doing this and he only liked swimming in Green Belly Bay as he grew up there with his family.  All of his family had died because they were allergic to hamburgers. He washed himself with tropical body wash

Diving Potato

Once this dumb potato wanted to jump off the highest diving board in the world. So everybody watched. As he jumped off he turned around and saw that it was cloudless. Then he turned back around and saw green, "Wait a second that's grass not water, ahhhh!"
Boof and he died.
"Potato, Potato!"
 "What?"
"Hi.."
Oh it was just a dream luckily.

'Candle in the Jar'

Here's a slideshow of our experiment from PAI today. We are focusing on behaving like scientists and asking lots of questions about what we see. What questions do you have about what we did?

1. Put a candle on a plate and pour some water onto the plate.
2. Add a few drops of food colouring to the water so you can see what's happening.
3. Light the candle.
4. Put a jar upside-down over the candle and see what happens...

Almost Done!

Today we watched as the concrete was poured for our new ChiLL studio and cloak bay. The only step left now is for the roof to be put over where we will be keeping our bags. Alex asked a good question about how we're going to use the top cubbies in our cloak bay as they are so high. Hmmmm, this sounds like a good problem-solving opportunity for us!

Yesterday's Cross Country!

Yesterday Room 19 competed in our school cross-country. We showed our PRIDE values through being DETERMINED to finish the course. We are doing some writing around our cross-country experiences and we will share this with you soon.

Team Kiwi's Colourful and Crazy Camp Day

Funday Friday!

Every Friday in Team Kiwi we have been doing Funday Friday.That is where every Friday we go to another class in Team Kiwi and do something fun. Some of the things we have been doing include using Room 19s green screen, or doing some baking or even doing some art. It has been very fun in Team Kiwi with Funday Friday we wish we could do it every year.

In Room 19 we have been reading a book called Percy Jackson it is about a half blood boy who has troubles with school. His math teacher Mrs Dodds was not actually a maths teacher she was a demon. His best friend Grover was actually a goat.

Diorama-rama!!

This term we started making our dioramas.We had four choices,city scape,sea scape, space scape

and an ideal bedroom. We had lots of material to make a diorama. We had to put lots of shiny,matte,bright and dark things.

Fun day.

All of team kiwi had a fun day. We did a lollie scramble. Mmmmmmm , we never are aloud to eat lollies at school but we were on fun day. Belle and Laura like lollies. There was two bouncy castles one was a slide and one was a climbing one. Most of us had a go flying our class kite . They flew really high. Mrs Smith Williams did clover face paints on us . We had fun on fun day.

Our Fabulous, Fun, First Week Back!

To celebrate our first week back at school we had a special surprise at school today. The whole of Team Kiwi got to have a turn playing on some bouncy castles, getting our faces painted, flying kites and we even had a lolly scramble!

Welcome to 2011! Room 19 (and the rest of Team Kiwi) have kicked off our year-long focus on EXCELLENCE by winning the Learning Celebration PAI Trophy on our very first day back!
