Our Science Experiment 26 Days On!

On the 21st of February we set up an experiment to see what would happen to a 10c coin when we left it in a glass of Coke, a glass of Sprite, a glass of V-energy Drink and a glass of plain old water.

We had heard rumours that the 10c piece would dissolve in the Coke and we wanted to see if this was true. This is day 26 of our experiment and so far all of the 10c pieces are still in one piece, so much for that rumour!

Although our experiment didn't do what we thought it would, we have made some interesting observations about the changes that have happened over the past 26 days:

  • All the liquids in the glasses have gone down and therefore the glasses are less full. This is because the liquids have evapourated.
  • All the coins are the same size and shape, even after being in the liquid for more than 3 weeks!
  • The Sprite has turned from clear to blue??!!
  • The V-energy drink has turned dark brown (ewwwwww)
  • A dead fly was floating in the Coke (double ewwwwwwwwww!!!)
